Borehole Drilling Services in Kenya

If you’re looking for reliable borehole drilling services in Kenya and neighboring countries, Irrihydrosol Ltd is your go-to company. We understand that groundwater can be a vital alternative source of water, especially when piped systems or other sources are limited or insufficient to meet the water demand.

Here’s our borehole drilling procedure:

  1. The client provides us with relevant documents such as a hydro-geological survey report, WARMA, NEMA, and county government permits.
  2. We review and approve the documents.
  3. We visit the site for budgeting and logistics evaluation.
  4. We process the quotation.

Our borehole drilling package includes:

  1. Site preparation by availing machinery (rig), equipment, and labor to the intended borehole site.
  2. Borehole drilling, which involves sinking the well for groundwater extraction. The process is dependent on the findings stated in the hydrogeological survey report, such as the amount of water to be expected from the aquifer, borehole depth, and soil structure.
  3. Casing the borehole walls with mild-steel casings to prevent collapse and debris blocking the well. Two types of pipes are used; slotted pipes for the section near the aquifer to allow water seepage into the well, and continuous pipes for the rest of the borehole.
  4. Graveling by applying a gravel film between the casing and the borehole walls. Gravel is permeable and allows water to seep through while filtering out soil particles and other impurities. Additionally, the gravel filling holds the casing firmly in place.
  5. Equipping by installing a pump, pipes, tank, and other necessary agricultural structures.

Our additional services include:

  • Water pump supply and installation. We supply both surface and submersible pumps powered by generators, solar, or electric energy. Visit our online store to view these products.
  • Farmer training and capacity building on water harvesting, irrigation, crop agronomy, and agricultural soil management for individuals and groups.
  • Irrigation systems supply and installation, including drip kits, rain hoses, and sprinkler systems.
  • Greenhouse construction and supply.

Here are some FAQs about borehole drilling:

  1. How long does it take to drill a borehole?

The hydrogeological survey takes 1 day, report preparation by hydrogeologists takes 2-3 days, the drilling period takes 2-3 weeks, and equipping takes 2-3 weeks.

  1. Do I need permission to drill a borehole in Kenya?

Yes, you need permits from Water Resources Authority (WRA), National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), and county government for groundwater extraction and usage.

  1. What is a hydrogeological survey?

It’s an investigation conducted to establish the presence, quality, quantity, and location of groundwater (aquifers). The survey also maps out the location’s geologic parameters such as soil structure, water-bearing rocks, and their ability to filter and store water. The results are presented in a hydrogeological survey report.

  1. Can you drink borehole water?

Yes, borehole water is safe for drinking, but ensure it’s tested by experts to meet acceptable drinking water standards.

  1. What type of pump is used in boreholes?

Submersible borehole pumps, which fall under the centrifugal pumps category, can be electric or solar-powered.

  1. What are the steps in borehole drilling?

Site preparation, borehole drilling, casing, graveling, and equipping.
